Richard Warwick

"Singing in the Rain" was Dick's favorite movie, and his favorite color was red. He wrote of the happiest days of his life being when he met and married Olwen, when his oldest son Martyn was born and then the birth of his second son Russell (sadly, Russell died unexpectedly some years ago.) Even though we never met, he was with me for years, being my cousin-friend through two decades of letters and experiences. Dick was born on November 4th 1913 and died in September of 2002. I wanted to think my beloved cousin Dick could never die - I still think of him often. At first I was going to say that I wondered if spirits could travel, but I know the answer must be yes because even when Dick was alive his spirit crossed the ocean to touch our lives in the USA. Cousin Dick, I miss you...

Dick and Olwen Warwick

Just the thought of Dick Warwick makes me smile. Richard Frank Warwick, who is my cousin twice removed, was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Bridgeman's youngest child Ethel and her husband Richard Warwick. We corresponded for a number of years, from 1981 until around 2000 or 2001. Included on this site are excerpts from some of his letters telling about the Bridgeman family. As you read them you are certain to "get a feel" for this very special family member. Warm, upbeat, friendly and accepting, Dick  is proof that love can cross oceans and I am a better person for having known him.

Dick Warwick Pages

Excerpts from Letter of  17th February 1981

These pages are from an early letter, when my dear cousin Dick started writing to me and telling me about the Bridgeman family history. The end of the 3rd page and on to the fourth tells the story of Frank Bridgeman who refused to leave the captain of his ship that was caught in the ice off Russia.

Article from  November 23, 1983

Making the Magic Carpet, the tragic story of the R101 which begins as a seven-part drama serial, Bristol-based director Brian Miller had a problem: how to recreate the sound of the airship's engines. . .  almost inconceivably, he discovered the answer to the problem on his own doorstep.
